Bertha Corbett Melcher is credited for creating the Sunbonnet girl for her book The Sunbonnet Babies published in 1900. Soon after that the sunbonnet girl started to appear in quilt patterns. It was fun to superimpose modern girls doing sports on top of the old fashioned girls, although we all know girls “wayback when” did daring and athletic things too. The clip art theme appealed to me because of the stark contrast.
